Following the credentials ceremony and meeting with the staff at the Consulate, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Sri Lanka HE Laimonas Talat-Kelpsa visited Speaker’s House upon his invitation. Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament Hon Karu Jayasuriya had discussions of strengthening the ties between Sri Lanka and Lithuania on different areas including Trade, Economy, Culture and Diplomacy.
The Speaker also highlighted on 'Parliamentary Diplomacy' the means by which two or more parliaments conduct an ongoing dialogue with regard to key international issues and the significance of it to create closer relationships with the Lithuanian Parliament.
Talat-Kelpsa emphasized the importance of Sri Lanka to Lithuania and the progress they have achieved so far. He highlighted the importance of the highly active Consulate in Colombo and its efficiency which has facilitated links between his Embassy in New Delhi and Colombo. His Excellency also extended his gratitude towards the Speaker for the warmth and hospitality during his visit to the island.
Deputy Head of Mission Justinas Bakunas, Honorary Consul R.M. Manivannan, Director of Public Relations and Communication (Consulate) Kachana Kodituwakku and Project Coordinator (Consulate) Thilina Galappatti were also present on this occasion.
